Three Years Later, FCC Rolls Back Pandemic Rule Change For Lowest Unit Charge
Three years ago, in the early weeks of the pandemic, some broadcasters were doing what previously had been unthinkable: giving free spot time to clients above and beyond what would otherwise be considered bonus spots as part of routine commercial contract. That led the Federal Communications Commission to adjust how lowest unit charges were calculated, by allowing broadcasters to exclude the freebies given to commercial advertisers.
