Layoffs At Media Continue To Climb
The media industry has cut at least 17,436 jobs through May of this year, the highest year-to-date amount on record, surpassing the 2020 pandemic job cuts of 16,750 through May, according to outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas. In news alone, 1,972 jobs were cut, surpassing the 1,808 announced in all of 2022.

The FCC notice, in addition to wildfires and pandemics, provides examples of the kinds of emergencies that the rules are intended to cover – including “tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, tidal waves, earthquakes, icing conditions, heavy snows, widespread fires, discharge of toxic gases, widespread power failures, industrial explosions, civil disorders, school closings and changes in school bus schedules resulting from such conditions, and warnings and watches of impending changes in weather.”
